Terri Piasecki has been involved in the construction industry all of her adult life.  As a daughter of a Union Electrical Contractor (IBEW Local 25)  in the 1980's she began working in her father's office. Learning all about the business and accounting using the old fashioned One-Write system (yes, before computers and Quickbooks were a thing)!  Eventually going to college, Terri began working for other types of subcontractors - usually in the accounting office, learning all aspects of the business of contracting - from insurance and bonding to job costing, to human resources and worker's comp case management. Eventually out of college, she landed a job for an environmental contractor - mostly asbestos, lead and mold abatement along with selective demolition and reinsulation services. Around 2000-2001 the price of contractor insurance premiums skyrocketed, and Terri became their safety manager to try and reduce injuries and improve relations with insurance companies.  Together with the cooperation of the principals, we turned the company around. We created a culture where safety became a priority, and something employees willing talked about consistently.  The result was better safety behavior and then the company saw their EMR rating go below 1.0 which translated to a worker's compensation insurance premium discount! Not just a small savings but a measurable, significant premium discount.
